Chiang Rai Activities and Top Things to do guide

Many sporting activities can be done at the hotels and resorts around Chiang Rai and these include golf, tennis, swimming, horse riding and similar energetic sports. Chiang Rai does however have numerous other sporting activities for those that enjoy a 'good sweat'.

Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking
has to be one of the more popular activities in the area and one that can be enjoyed by all members of the family. There are several tours offering trips of different lengths and levels of expertise. Trails follow the impressive Mekong River and offer views of Myanmar and lush tropical forests.

River Rafting adventures can be arranged for trips on bamboo rafts. For travelers who are not constrained by time, the Kok River offers a different entrance to Chiang Rai. The journey starts in Thatorn, on the Mayanmar border and three days later arrives in Chiang Rai. Of course you can always just raft locally and spend a few hours meandering downstream enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the surrounding nature.

Elephant trekking Elephant trekking
is one activity the whole family can enjoy. What better way to see the surrounding fauna and flora than from the back of the world's largest land mammal? If you don't fancy a ride, then you may enjoy just being with these incredible creatures and learning a little about them, for example did you know that an elephant can hold more than 25 litres of water in its nose (trunk) at one time? Find out more by meeting one of these fascinating creatures.

Horse Riding is a superb way to see the surrounding landscape and if you are quiet, a lot of wildlife can be spotted from the saddle too. Horses rarely disturb the fauna as they pass, so it is up to you to be as quiet as possible (this means no talking) and you'll be surprised at what you'll discover.

Golf is now available on several golf clubs and courses. Admission, charges, greens fees and hours of operation can be provided by the course itself or any tour agent in Chiang Rai.
