Chiang
Saen Activities and Top Things to do guide
can
be found at the Chiang Saen lake from sailing dinghies
to fishing. To get to the lake, travel five km from
Chiang Saen along Highway No. 1016, turning left at
km27, for a further two kilometers. The lake's one square
km of water is home to waterfowl during the winter months.
Water sport facilities are available from the resort/s
in the area.
can be done
in a number of areas around Chiang Sean and rods can
be hired but it is probably best to bring your own.
There are two young working elephants and their mother
living in the hotel grounds. Elephant treks are available
that follow the nature trail and last for about an hour.
The animals are obviously well looked after and ours
seemed to quite enjoy the experience (even if he did
get told off by his owner for trying to nibble some
of the new saplings planted in the grounds!)
There's even a special purpose-built platform so you
can get onto the elephant while retaining your decorum!
Highly recommended.
You can rent a bike for the day or by the hour to explore
the vast countryside and explore the wealth of local
culture. The hotel has designed a route from the hotel
to Chiang Saen and back using the back roads through
the rice paddies and small villages. It's well sign
posted and starts in Sop Ruak village. Rides around
the hotel grounds are also very scenic following the
hotel's nature trail out to the hideaway site.
Enjoy the hotel's beautiful gardens and bamboo forests
by following the nature trail that starts at the end
of the Mae Sai wing. You could end up at the hideaway
site overlooking the Ruak river and the banks of Myanmar.
Alternatively, there are shorter routes surrounding
the sports complex and Hilltop.
If you would like to contribute to improving Thailand's
environment and cheering up the local wildlife, the
hotel can arrange for you to plant a teak sapling in
the hotel's grounds. They will forward photos of the
planting to you on your return home.
The art of carving fruit and vegetables into intricate
shapes is a important part of Thai cuisine. Spend an
hour practicing your culinary carving skills with the
hotel's kitchen staff and amaze your friends and relatives
at your next dinner party!
Sounds simple but you'll be amazed what you can do with
a napkin. Bamboo shoots, boat tails, The Boot and three
types of fan are just some of the styles for your dining
table. Learn how to do it from the experts.
Now that you can fold your napkins and carve your own
plate decorations, its time to learn how to cook
those delicious Thai meals. Every week the Chef de Partie
dons his apron and shows you how to cook basic but exotic
Thai cuisine.
Before impressing your friends with your newfound cooking
skills, it's only appropriate to mix them a Thai cocktail
to start the meal in style. Every week the Head Barman
will teach you his secret recipes for making exquisite
cocktails.
This is an unique pastime that anyone with artistic
talents will enjoy. The hotel's resident artist will
give you a wooden roof tile for your canvas and then
it's up to you to show off your talents or simply learn
from the professional.
