Chiang
Saen Transportation and transfer guide
There are no direct
flights to Chiang Saen and you will need to fly to Chiang
Rai and make your way own way the final 60 km to Chiang Saen.
There are frequent buses
from Chaing Rai to Chiang Saen for around 20 Baht one way.
The trip can take anything from 45 mins. to 2 hours, depending
on the traffic and how many stops it makes en-route.
From Chiang Mai on the other hand it is advisable to ask
to go on the 'new route' (sai mai) as this only takes 4 to
5 hours and makes only a few stops en-route. The old route
can take over 9 hours to complete with many stops on the way.

to navigate the area and these can be rented in Chiang Rai
if you wish to transport yourself from one place to another.
Again, these
are probable easier to rent in Chiang Rai and then driven
to Chiang Saen, but you will probably find renting a motorbike
a better bet as the roads one will probably explore in the
area are easier to negotiate by two wheeled transport.

Mai and by bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and then on,
to Chiang Saen.
