Chiang Saen Transportation and transfer guide

BY AIR There are no direct flights to Chiang Saen and you will need to fly to Chiang Rai and make your way own way the final 60 km to Chiang Saen.

BUSES There are frequent buses from Chaing Rai to Chiang Saen for around 20 Baht one way. The trip can take anything from 45 mins. to 2 hours, depending on the traffic and how many stops it makes en-route.

From Chiang Mai on the other hand it is advisable to ask to go on the 'new route' (sai mai) as this only takes 4 to 5 hours and makes only a few stops en-route. The old route can take over 9 hours to complete with many stops on the way.

MOTORBIKES are another way to navigate the area and these can be rented in Chiang Rai if you wish to transport yourself from one place to another.

MOTORCAR HIRE Again, these are probable easier to rent in Chiang Rai and then driven to Chiang Saen, but you will probably find renting a motorbike a better bet as the roads one will probably explore in the area are easier to negotiate by two wheeled transport.

BY TRAIN from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and by bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and then on, to Chiang Saen.
