Phang Nga and Khaolak Transportation and
transfer guide
Flights There are very frequent flights to Phuket
with Thai Airways as well as the to the new Krabi airport
from Bangkok daily. Phuket/Bangkok flights run every hour
and there are two flights daily to Krabi. For more information
on other destinations take a look at our transport pages for
the following areas: Koh Samui, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya,
Chiang Rai and Phuket for local flights to/from these destinations
and Bangkok.
The easiest but not necessarily the cheapest way to travel
to Phang Nga from Krabi or Phuket is to hail a taxi or rent
a vehicle outside the airport grounds on arrival. (The taxi's
operating within the airport tend to be pricey and are not
keen on travelling too far from the main towns.)
Buses There are no buses stopping at the airport, in
fact most people are package tourists who are picked up by
shuttles and brought to their hotels therefore you need to
arrange your own transport to the main road Phuket-Phang Nga-Krabi.
Taxis within the airport grounds will get you there,
but charge high prices. It's better to walk out of the airport
(100 m) and wait till you get approached by someone or hail
a local blue taxi/truck/bus or tuk-tuk that you'll see outside
the grounds. Or you can hire your own transport. There are
a number of vehicle rental shops just across the main road
in front of the airport itself, all of which are averagely
priced and will rent their vehicles for long or short term
periods.
As with Phuket the easiest and cheapest way to travel to
Phang Nga from Krabi is to hail a taxi or rent a vehicle outside
the airport grounds. The taxi's operating within the airport
tend to be pricey and are not keen on travelling too far from
the town of Krabi itself.
TIP: Coming from both Krabi or Phuket you'll see numerous
signs saying "Phang Nga bay en-route to Phang Nga Bay
proper, but if you want the real thing, get out at Phang Nga
town, not before.
By train There are several trains, but they only go
as far as Surat Thani, some of these arrive in the middle
of the night and form Surat Thani you need to take a local
bus or rent a vehicle to the place you want to go.
By bus You can make your way to Phuket or Krabi town's
central bus station and catch a bus from there. These run
at regular intervals daily, but the ride tends to be long
and on the boring side.
By boat All the offshore islands can be reached by
boat. Either a local long-tail or a speed boat will get you
there or you can charter a yacht from Phuket island or Krabi's
Railei Beach.
Some islands, such as Koh Yao Noi have a long-tail taxi service
operating from both Phuket and Krabi or again you might be
lucky if in Phuket or one of Krabi's beach areas and be able
to charter a yacht to these islands.
Motorbike or car rental is probably the best way to
see the area as it is so extensive and there are so many things
to see and do, that you will find 'getting around' far easier
if done under your own steam.
